HWLincs Giving Back Days

Our recent Giving Back Day saw the team enjoy a fun and fulfilling day of volunteering at The Askefield Project at Friskney.

The Askefield Project creates rewarding and meaningful opportunities to enhance community health and wellbeing. We had heard many positive things about the place, which has been a haven for people across the county.

The project is housed on a beautiful farm, set on a 13.5-acre smallholding in Friskney, on the East Coast of rural Lincolnshire. We were thrilled to wander around the farm buildings, paddocks, the orchard, and reflect in the sensory garden.

We came prepared, with our packed lunches and sleeves rolled up, and soon were fast becoming pros at electric fence installation and a spot of maintenance work. Well, perhaps not pros, but some of us certainly found a few hidden skills.

It is always wonderful to enjoy some quality time together as a team in the great outdoors, and we all felt that we were able to make a useful contribution to the infrastructure of the farm, which requires round-the-clock attention to continue to thrive.

Fences installed and new holding areas created, we turned our attention to our first ever sheepherding experience, and it was certainly a joyous moment as we opened the gates and watched the stampede.

The HWLincs staff, volunteers and trustees had great fun and we all felt it was an incredibly positive day.
